In order to better optimize the discipline layout and improve the teaching and research level of quantitative economics in Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, in June 2015, Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics decided to establish the Department of Quantitative Economics in the School of Statistics. Quantitative economics is an economic discipline that studies the economic quantitative relations and its changing rules by using statistics, mathematical methods and computing techniques on the basis of economic theory analysis. It is the characteristic of quantitative economics to study economic quantitative relations through economic mathematical model. The position of quantitative economics in the system of economic science is equivalent to that of mathematics in all sciences. Because it studies economic quantitative relations with the special method of economic mathematics model, it provides general analysis method and methodology for the deepening of other economic disciplines. The Department of Quantitative Economics is responsible for the teaching and construction of bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, master’s and doctor’s degrees in quantitative economics.

The quantitative economics discipline of Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics has a certain influence in China. In 2000, it was granted the right to confer master’s degree. In 2003, 2007 and 2011, it was approved as the key discipline of Jiangxi Province, and in 2011, it was granted the right to confer doctor’s degree. After years of construction, quantitative economics of our school has made great progress and has become an important force in the discipline construction of our school. It has certain characteristics and advantages in econometric methods and applications, game theory and information economics, quantitative finance and investment analysis, etc.

The Department of Quantitative Economics has 7 teachers, including 1 chief professor, 3 professors, 3 associate professors, 1 lecturer, 2 doctoral supervisors and 7 master supervisors. All teachers have doctorates. In recent years, the teachers of the Department has presided over and researched 12 programs of national natural science foundation and national social science foundation, 2 programs of humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, and published more than 30 high-level theses in international SSCI retrieval journals and domestic authoritative journals. In October 2015, Jiangxi provincial economic forecasting and decision-making research center, headed by our chief professor Tao Changqi, successfully applied for the Key Research Base of Philosophy and Social Sciences in Jiangxi.

The teachers of the Department have a solid mathematical foundation and profound theoretical knowledge of economics. Their main task and goal is to promote the teaching of quantitative economics in Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics. The courses of quantitative economics include econometrics, mathematical economics, quantitative economic software application, economic prediction and decision-making, game theory and information economics, risk quantitative analysis, financial data analysis, financial econometrics, financial time series analysis, mathematical finance, etc.

The Department of Quantitative Economics will focus on the following work:

1. Strengthening the training of undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students to provide high-level professionals for universities, governments and enterprises.

2. Holding high-level quantitative economic conferences regularly to strengthen academic exchanges and cooperation with international and domestic peers.

3. Tackling key issues that have a significant impact on the development of the discipline to strive for a new breakthrough in publishing theses in internationally renowned journals.

4. Combining with the existing resources of the university and the School of Statistics to assist in building the economic forecasting and decision-making center of Jiangxi Province.

5. Providing appropriate personnel training, quantitative consulting analysis and decision-making reference for government departments, financial institutions and enterprises.
