The Department of Mathematical Statistics was formally established in September 2011. It not only undertakes the public courses of probability of the whole school, but also undertakes the teaching tasks of important basic mathematics courses and specialized courses of the school and other schools, especially the professional construction tasks of the experimental class of top statistics talents.

The Department of Mathematical Statistics has 14 teachers, among whom, 1 teacher is a doctor studying in the United States and returning to China, and the rest teachers are doctors majoring in mathematical statistics or similar majors. In the past five years, the teachers in the Department of Mathematical Statistics have undertaken 6 programs of National Science Foundation, more than 10 provincial key and general programs, and published more than 40 accepted theses in the Journal of Econometrics, Insurance:Mathematics and Economics, China Science and Mathematics (English and Chinese) and other first-class international and domestic journals.

Under the joint efforts of all the teachers in the Department, the experimental class of top-notch talents in the School of Statistics responsible for mathematical statistics has achieved initial results. The average rate of three grades of graduates going abroad and taking the postgraduate entrance examination reaches 53.3%. The students have successively applied for the doctor’s degree at the University of California, Davis, Georgia State University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Renmin University of China, University of Science and Technology of China, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and other top international and domestic universities.
