In August, Professor Liu Xiaohui, director of the Key Laboratory of Financial Data Science at our institute, was invited to visit the School of Mathematics and Statistics and the Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at Victoria University of Wellington as a Shayle Searle Fellow, where she spent 20 days engaging in academic exchanges.
During his visit, Professor Liu Xiaohui had a discussion with Professor Ivy Liu, a dual appointment faculty member in the School of Mathematics and Statistics and the Center for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, on statistical inference for ordered categorical data (ordinal data) in complex data environments. They jointly determined the research topics for further study. Professor Ivy Liu has been working in the field of statistical analysis of ordinal data for a long time and is an internationally renowned scholar in this field. Professor Ivy Liu and her team have achieved significant results and positive progress by applying ordinal data and other statistical methods to improve the breeding level of New Zealand salmon and other seafood products.
Victoria University of Wellington is one of the leading research universities in New Zealand, with its academic programs and research projects enjoying a high international reputation, providing students with rich practical opportunities and academic resources. In 2022, under the joint efforts of Professor Xiaohui Liu and Professor Ivy Liu, a good bilateral cooperation project was successfully established between Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics and Victoria University of Wellington. So far, several teachers from Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics have visited Victoria University of Wellington for academic exchange; meanwhile, two PhD students will soon be sent there for joint training, and one master's graduate will go there to pursue a PhD degree. Professor Liu's visit is an important part of further deepening academic exchange and cooperation between the two universities.
