School of Statistics, Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics originated from Jiangxi Provincial Commercial School which was established in 1923. Statistics is the university’s traditional advantage major, and has complete discipline platforms including bachelor’s degree, master’s degree (including professional master’s degree), doctor’s degree and post-doctoral mobile stations. Quantitative Economics is a level II discipline under the applied economics of our university, and has the discipline platforms including master, doctor and postdoctoral mobile stations, and so on.

The School consists of “five departments, one institute and two firms”, namely five teaching departments (Department of Economic Statistics, Department of Financial Statistics, Department of Mathematical Statistics, Department of Management Statistics and Department of Quantitative Economics), Research Institute of Statistics and Risk Management, quantitative economics research Firms and Time Research Firm, Jiangxi Applied Statistics Research Center (Jiangxi university humanities and social sciences key research base), Jiangxi Center for Economic Forecasting and Decision Making (the Key Research Base of Philosophy and Social Sciences in Jiangxi), and supply chain big data research center (jointly built with China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing). The School invites Professor Qiu Dong, famous statistician and Changjiang scholar, as honorary president.

Discipline Platform

Statistics in Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics is one of the larger and faster developing disciplines in China. In 1978 and 1985, the major acquired the right for bachelor’s degree and master’s degree respectively. In 1997, 2001 and 2006, the statistics discipline was rated as a provincial key discipline for three consecutive times. In 2002, the statistics major was evaluated as the brand major of Jiangxi Province. In 2006, the master program in statistics was awarded as the model master program in Jiangxi Province, and the second batch of postgraduate education innovation base in Jiangxi Province. In 2011, the school became the only one of the first batch of China’s institutions that awarded doctoral programs in level I disciplines of statistics in our province. In 2012, the school became the first post-doctoral statistics research station in our province. In 2017, the statistics discipline of our school was selected as the “first-class discipline of Jiangxi Province”. In the fourth round of discipline assessment of the Ministry of Education, it was rated A-level, and ranked among the top 10% of universities in China. At present, the statistics disciplined of our school is the leader organization of Jiangxi university statistics discipline alliance, which has formed a development pattern with postgraduate education as the forerunner, undergraduate education as the center and international cooperation in running schools as the supplement.

Quantitative Economics has a certain influence in China. In 2000, it obtained the right to grant master’s degree. In 2003, 2007 and 2011, it was approved as a key discipline of Jiangxi Province. In 2011, it obtained the right to grant doctor’s degree. After years of construction, Quantitative Economics of our school has made great progress and has become an important force in the discipline construction of our school. Our school has certain characteristics and advantages in econometric methods and applications, game theory and information economics, quantitative finance and investment analysis, etc.

Teaching Staff

In the history of more than 30 years of undergraduate education, the school has a large number of excellent professional teachers in both teaching skills and moral integrity, including 79 faculty members, 67 of whom are full-time teachers. Among full-time teachers, there are 2 Chang Jiang Scholars Program chair professors, 4 foreign discipline leaders (flexible), 1 teacher enjoying special allowance from the State Council, 1 judge of National Social Science Fund of China, 1 member of economics teaching guidance committee of the Ministry of Education,1 member of New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education, 1 teacher of national New Century Talents Program, 1 member of young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions to the state, 2 teachers enjoying special allowance from Jiangxi Province, 2 teachers of Jiangxi New Century Talents Program, 3 candidates for Gan Po 555 Engineering Excellence, 21 doctoral supervisors, 17 professors, 18 associate professors and 57 teachers of doctorates. The proportion of teachers with senior titles reaches 56.45%, and the proportion of doctorates reaches 91.93%. More than 60% of the existing faculty with doctorates received their doctorates in 985 universities. 5 teachers received their doctorates in the United States, Australia and Singapore, and 2 teachers received their doctorates jointly trained by China Scholarship Council and the United States.


Teaching and Research Achievements

In recent years, the school has made remarkable achievements in teaching, scientific research and serving the local economy, etc. The school has undertaken more than 200 horizontal topics at national, provincial and ministerial level. The school has established a national-level experimental teaching demonstration center “economic management and entrepreneurship simulation experimental teaching center” -- computer aided telephone investigation (CATI) laboratory. In 2017 alone, the school established 9 national-level scientific research programs. Among them, “statistical measurement research on poverty exit assessment” was approved by National Social Science Fund of China for major bidding programs. The school has published more than 40 authoritative theses.16 provincial-level programs approved; set up 5 horizontal programs of various types, with a total program budget of more than RMB 2 million yuan. In 2018, the school won the bid for national poverty alleviation verification program, and received more than RMB 5 million yuan in funding.

Talent Training Effect and School Reputation

    The employment of statistics major in the school is known as “three high” (high employment quality, high employment rate, and high admission rate of postgraduate entrance examination). Since the university made statistics of the employment rate ranking of each school in 2002, the regular employment rate of statistics major ranked the top three in the school for 7 consecutive years from 2002 to 2008. Among them, the regular employment rate from 2002 to 2006 ranked the first in the whole school, and won all the awards of employment work for graduates from our school. It is the only demonstration site of employment work in the whole school. At the same time, in 2006, statistics major was ranked as the eighth undergraduate employment rate in the province, and became the only economics major among the top ten.
