The School of Statistics, Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics has two discipline platforms of statistics and quantitative economics, which can well support and serve the cultivation of high-level talents in relevant majors and directions suchas economic statistics, financial statistics, applied statistics and quantitative economics, etc..

Statistics has a complete discipline system consisting of bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in statistics, master’s degree in applied statistics (M.A.S), first-level doctoral station in statistics and post-doctoral research station in statistics. Statistics is one of the oldest and most traditional majors in our university since its establishment. Statistics has been qualified for undergraduate admission since 1978. It obtained the right to train postgraduate students in 1984. Statistics is one of the first majors in Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics to obtain the right to train postgraduate students. In 1996, 2001 and 2006, statistics was evaluated as the key discipline of Jiangxi Province for three consecutive times. In 2006, statistics was awarded the model master’s program of Jiangxi Province. In 2008, it was approved as the first category of characteristic major in colleges and universities of Jiangxi Province. In 2011, statistics was approved as the first-level discipline to award the doctoral degree and became the only doctoral program in statistics in Jiangxi Province. In 2012, the school applied for and successfully obtained the approval of postdoctoral research station of statistics. After long-term development, statistics has achieved rapid development in discipline echelon, academic research, postgraduate training and other aspects to form a distinct discipline characteristics. Statistics is the leader organization of Jiangxi university statistics discipline alliance. In the fourth round of national discipline assessment, statistics obtained A-grade, and also entered the square matrix of first-class discipline construction in Jiangxi Province.

In 2000, quantitative economics obtained the right to grant master’s degree, and in 2011, it obtained the right to grant doctor’s degree and the training point of post-doctoral mobile station. It is a key discipline of Jiangxi Province in “the tenth five-year plan”, “the eleventh five-year plan” and “the twelfth five-year plan”. After years of construction, quantitative economics has become an important force in the discipline construction of our school. Gratifying results have been achieved in all our work. In particular, the quantity and quality of postgraduate and doctoral programs have made remarkable progress.

On the whole, the discipline construction of the School of Statistics, Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics has gradually formed its own advantages and characteristics.

 (1) Solid discipline platform. The School of Statistics applied for in 2013 and approved as the key cultural base of the Department of Education of Jiangxi Province “Jiangxi applied statistics research center” in 2014. The School of Statistics applied for and successfully obtained the approval of the Key Research Base of Philosophy and Social Sciences in Jiangxi “Jiangxi provincial economic forecasting and decision-making center” in 2015. School of Statistics and China Federation of Logistics and Procurement jointly built the “research center of big data of supply chain” in 2015. Under the support of these research centers, it has a solid and perfect scientific research platform and training base for the growth of young teachers and the cultivation of postgraduate students.

(2) Excellent faculty and strong development momentum. More than 90% of the full-time teachers in the school have doctorates, including 6 overseas returnees from prestigious universities in the United States, Australia and Singapore, etc. Among them, there are 1 specially-appointed professor of Chang Jiang Scholars Program, 2 chair professors of Chang Jiang Scholars Program, 4 leading talents of foreign disciplines (flexible introduction), 1 national social science foundation statistics discipline evaluation expert, 1 member of economics teaching guidance committee of the Ministry of Education, 1 teacher from the Program for New Century Excellent Talents of Ministry of Education, 1 teacher enjoying governmental special allowance of the State Council, 2 teachers enjoying special allowance of Jiangxi Provincial Government, 2 candidates for Jiangxi “Ten Million Talents Program”, 5 candidates for Gan Po 555 Engineering Excellence, 2 teachers of Jinggang Star, 6 academic leaders and 3 young scientist training objects in Jiangxi Province.

(3) Fruitful scientific research and expanding academic influence. The School of Statistics has a well-structured research team, which has obtained a number of influential research results and is widely recognized by peers and the society. In the past five years, the teaching researchers of the school have presided over (researched or completed) more than 50 national-level research programs and published more than 200 theses. Among them, more than 40 academic theses have been published in international and domestic authoritative journals, and more than 10 provincial/ministerial-level scientific research achievements have been awarded, with a total fund of nearly 30 million yuan.
