On August 23rd, the results of the 2023 National Student Statistical Modeling Competition, organized by the Chinese Society of Statistical Education in conjunction with the Steering Committee for Teaching Statistics in Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and the National Steering Committee for Graduate Education of Applied Statistics Degree, were announced. The School of Statistics and Data Science of our university strived for excellence, and a total of 8 teams in the undergraduate and graduate student groups participated in the national on-site defense competition on behalf of universities in Jiangxi Province, and finally won 3 national first prizes and 1 second prize in the undergraduate group, 3 national first prizes and 1 second prize in the graduate student group, an outstanding achievement.
Since the National Undergraduate Statistical Modeling Competition started in February, a total of 613 colleges and universities, 11,213 teams and 33,600 people have participated in the competition. After the selection of 27 provincial regions, the preliminary evaluation of the national competition newsletter and on-site reevaluation, a total of 100 teams were shortlisted for the national defense competition, and finally 20 teams were awarded the first prize and 13 teams were awarded the second prize in the graduate student group, and 40 teams were awarded the first prize and 26 teams were awarded the second prize in the undergraduate student group.
The School of Statistics and Data Science has always been committed to the concept of student-oriented talent cultivation, and actively promotes the construction of disciplinary competitions, so as to build a platform for students to apply knowledge to solve practical problems. The school uses high-level scientific research to improve students' innovation and practical ability, guides students to actively participate in competitions, and achieves the effect of promoting teaching and learning by competition. This competition shows the style of our students, wins honor for our academic competitions, and accumulates rich experience for major events in the future.
