On November 14th, Jiang Jiming, Distinguished Professor and Changjiang Scholar of the University, attended the 31st Morris Hansen Lecture as the keynote speaker and delivered a lecture on the topic of Model Selection and its Important Role in Sampling Surveys.
The Morris Hansen Lecture was established in 1990 by the Washington Statistical Society (WSS) to honor the pioneering contributions of the renowned statistician Morris Hansen to sample surveys and related statistical methods. The primary format of the Morris Hansen Lecture series is to invite only one distinguished keynote speaker each year to speak on an important topic of wide interest, and two individuals to serve as discussants.
The Morris Hansen Lecture was held on November 14th in the Jefferson Auditorium of the South Building of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and was given by Jiming Jiang, Distinguished Professor of Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics. Prof. Jiang divided the lecture into six sections, including Introduction, Statistical modeling in surveys, Model selection, and so on, and gave a lecture on the topic of Model selection and its important role in surveys.

Jiang Jiming, Chair of the Department of Statistics at UC Davis, Changjiang Scholar of the Ministry of Education, Distinguished Professor of Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics. His research areas include mixed effects modeling, small domain estimation, big data analysis, biostatistics, and statistical asymptotic theory, etc. He has published more than 100 papers in the top journals of statistics, and 5 monographs. He has served as an editorial board member of the top international journals of statistics including AoS, JASA, etc. He was a Fellow of AAAS, ASA and IMS, and Elected Member of ISI. He received Outstanding Statistical Application Award from ASA in 1998, and Alumni Achievement Award from NISS in 2015.
